Governor training & support

Governors make an important contribution to the life of a college and its students, helping to ensure that the college is well managed and serves the needs of local industry and residents.

It is ever-more important, in these difficult financial times, that colleges provide the opportunities local people and local employers need - and that’s where college governors come in. Governors provide a crucial role as representatives from the local community who help set the college’s direction and ensure that it is managed effectively.

Our training and consultancy service for governors includes:

The governing body of any college is critical to quality management and financial security of the organization and, during an inspection, Ofsted inspectors will look at how governors are inducted and how they are consulted during college policy development and self assessment.

Governors have a legal responsibility within college leadership, and the governor training provided by ACER can provide your governing body with crucial insights. These include updates and legal changes within the FE sector; and working relationships between the senior leadership team and governing body to help your organisation utilise governors effectively to develop the strategic management of the college. We can also support governors through training and development events in order to help them fulfil their roles as strategic leaders of a college, ensuring the strategic direction and financial health of the college is sustained.

In addition, we also offer bespoke governor away day training and conference management as well as consultancy services and facilitation for your own in-house development for governors.

We also run network meetings through the year designed to offer your governing body the opportunity for valuable networking and keeping up-to-date on sector developments and legislation changes. Current networks include our Clerks’ Network and our Governors’ Network.
